Change your life!... Join the action... Explore & share the fun!
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and respected rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of any professional. As we conduct our training dives (following pool practice) you will be trained to dive in real sea conditions with emphasis on boat and shore diving. Your knowledge and experience can then be easily adapted to other dive sites. Not only do we train you in the sea but we also run all of our courses with back-mounted BC (wing) systems that thoroughly enhance your diving experience.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW EASY IS IT?
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is supported with the most professional manual ever produced by any agency and DVD movies that make learning much more easier at your own pace. All instructors at Underwater Explorers are experienced and active divers.
Once you develop a knowledge base in your own time, you’ll review this knowledge under the supervision of your instructor at Underwater Explorers, do practice dives in controlled conditions in a swimming pool, then conduct four dives in the sea. These may be off the beach or off a boat (but whichever, its all inclusive).
The four-day Open Water Diver course results with full qualification recognised throughout the world, allowing you to dive within the limits of your training and experience and allowing you also to rent out scuba diving equipment where local legislation requires an internationally accepted certification.
Once on the course, you’ll find yourself in a friendly, non-pushy, informal atmosphere becoming part of our own diving society.
Our courses include all listed items with no hidden costs. Indeed, at UE the cost is inclusive of manuals, slates, log book pages, waterproof slates used for dive management, scuba equipment rental (excluding neoprene boots due to hygiene reasons), all air fills, all pool time, full PADI certification and diver ID card. We even pay for your boat fees so you get the most out of your sea diving!...
WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. Diving is safe and not difficult. But do remember that you'll be in the water so you should also be able to swim and tread water.
AM I "REASONABLY" FIT?
Your health is important not just for the diving itself but on the surface with the equipment that makes it happen. Such as entry and exit points where you will be diving. At Open Water Diver level you would only be carrying a single tank (cylinder) full of compressed air and wearing weights to compensate for your buoyancy -- nothing heavier than those!.
Unlike buoyancy "jackets" you see in old movies, our cutting edge Back Mounted BCD System allows for excellent buoyancy and trim that saves you a lot of energy underwater. They also prevent excess pressure on the chest and stomach area through a contemporary body-form harness design. This fully adjustable clutter free system (used by leading explorers) aims to give you perfect trim so you would be 'gliding' underwater with minimal resistance and effort.
To gauge your fitness with these in mind, you can download an advance copy of the PADI Medical Statement and review the questions and further check an online Body Mass Index (BMI) for further guidance.
WHAT WILL I DO?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (sea) dives.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. Generally the course is conducted over four consecutive days or two weekends.
WHY DO IT WITH UE?
√ The UE Difference: Underwater Explorers is a leading PADI 5 Star Centre with a proven track record of over a decade in scuba diver training. It is one of the longest established dive schools in the Weymouth and Portland area and is run by experienced and professional divers. Our instructors have taught and certified hundreds of divers across the board and have at least 10 years minimum experience each in recreational diver training. We believe training should be fun but take the responsibility it entails seriously. We work only with instructors who have a track record in the field or who have directly been trained and accessed by us.
√ Equipment Matters: Much like any other adventure sport but even more importantly, the nature and quality of equipment you train in is essential to laying the correct foundations for your activity as much as your overall safety. All of our training equipment is contemporary, future-proof and regularly serviced by qualified technicians. We refuse to train new divers in outdated systems, equipment or techniques.
√ Better techniques: Even at beginner level we focus on skills that will develop you into an advanced ocean diver with ongoing experience and training. We concentrate on the essentials of underwater safety with special emphasis on Team Work, streamlining and trim. Our "keep it simple and safe" yet highly adaptable streamlined approach does not just save you money in the short and long term, but also enhances your overall fun and safety.
